It's A Date...Bamboo Thai Bistro and Menchies Frozen Yogurt

Kiko and I had one of our mini dates on Friday. We went to a local Thai restaurant for a nice and quiet dinner. It's our first time dining here, but we always order food for pick up. What I love about this place is the food is really delicious and very affordable. We never spend over $30 for the two of us.

Here's what he had...

Curry Fries. I read on yelp.com that it's a must try. The potatoes weren't too greasy and the curry dipping sauce had a hint of sweetness. Like!

Crab Fried Rice. It's our favorite. Lots of shredded real crab meat (crab legs). Soooo good!

Cashew Shrimp. Kiko's choice. He loves shrimp and cashews. It has tons of shrimp!

For dessert, we went to Menchies Frozen Yogurt. Something new. The topping choices are endless.

They offer more toppings compare to other frozen yogurt places.

Thanks for stopping by!

Mr. Churro, The Best Pupusa and Ikea Meatballs!

My friend Kristine came to visit from New York. She's my high school friend back in the Philippines and we haven't seen each other ever since I left in 2000. That's more than 10 years, wow! I was really excited to see her pretty face.

I took her to my favorite places to eat in L.A. First, breakfast at Olvera Street at Mr. Churro Bakery and Mexican Food. Homemade fresh churros still hot off the fryer, then filled with chocolate or custard filling. How can you go wrong?

Second, lunch at Grand Central Market. I was excited to let her taste the best tacos, cream puffs and pupusas that I know of.

Tacos Tumbras a Tomas. Handsdown best Mexican fast food in L.A. It's fresh, hot and very affordable!

A large chicken taco with cilantro, onions and salsa verde. It's big enough to share by 2 people.

I popped her Pupusa cherry by taking her to Sarita's Pupuseria. Homemade and delicious El Salvadorian food!

So many to choose from, but the must get is their Cheese and Garlic Pupusa. Freshly made stuffed masa with cheese and raw garlic. Yes, chunks of raw garlic, HEAVEN!

Ofcourse, I had to let her taste my favorite Horchata with Boba and...

...the best Cream Puffs ever!

Third, dinner at Ikea furniture store. It was right across from her hotel, and in case you didn't know, they have good meatballs and hotdogs for super cheap!

15 Swedish Meatballs with mashed potatoes and gravy and cranberry sauce!

As you can tell, we were stuffed by the end of the day. Stuffed and happy!!!

Big Sushi Rolls and Deleted Sushi Pic O_o

Over the weekend, Kiko and I went to our favorite Sushi spot, Sushi Delight. Delicious specialty sushi rolls, huge portions and affordable prices. I would've share more photos of other things we tried, but I accidentally deleted them. Why do I always do that?

California Tempura Roll is what we always get. Why? Because they are huge! Tempura battered California Roll deep fried and drizzled in ponzu sauce.

Another fav of ours is Shrimp Tempura Roll. It's not as big as the California Tempura Roll, but it's just as delicious!

I love their House Salad. It's sweet and tangy. I tried making the dressing at home, but it didn't taste the same ugh!

Boredom = Carrot Cupcakes!

This is the result of boredom...Carrot Cupcakes! Aren't they pretty?

I used Betty Crocker carrot cake mix and whipped butter cream icing. Thank goodness for Betty Crocker. She makes my life easier!

I used a fork to fluff the icing into tiny little peaks. That's cute, right?

Filipino Style Spaghetti...My Favorite Food in the World!

I don't remember when I decided spaghetti is going to be my favorite food in the world, but it is! .I can't get enough of it. Back home in the Philippines, there are many versions of it, but one thing they have in common is the sweetness! Yes, sweet spaghetti with lots of sugar in it. Buddy the Elf would love it.

I'll share my recipe, but keep in mind that I eyeball everything, so I don't have exact measurement of the ingredients.

ingredients:
  • garlic
  • chopped onions
  • tomato sauce
  • tomato paste
  • ground beef
  • salt and pepper
  • sugar
instructions:
  1. sautee garlic and onions in medium heat
  2. add ground beef and cook about 15-20 minutes
  3. add tomato paste. Mix
  4. add tomato sauce
  5. add sugar to desired sweetness ( I add a lot of sugar)
  6. add salt to taste
  7. add lots of pepper
  8. turn heat on low and let it cook/simmer for 30 minutes mixing every 10 minutes.
  9. Pour on cooked spaghetti noodles
  10. sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese and serve!

What is your favorite food in the world?

Steak Chimichurri Quesadillas

Quesadillas are an easy fix meal and a great way to use left overs. I made some using some left over steak and chimichurri from my last post. I chopped up steak into small cubes, add chimichurri sauce, sautee until heated through, then place on a flour torilla, added some cheese, put another flour tortilla on top, then grill until the tortilla are toasted. Easy right?

Grilled Steak and Chimichurri

The other day, I was craving a really good steak. So, I went to my local Vons and bought some meat. I also bought some ingredients to make Chimichurri to go with steak.  Oh how I love chimichurri. It's good with anything!

Here's my Steak with Chimichurri and Strawberry Salad. It came out so juicy and tender...yum!

It's my first time cooking steak on a grill, and I had no idea how easy it is. Usually, I like to cook it on the stove top or oven. But I wanted to try grilling for a change. I used the community gas grill in our apt. Kiko had to help me though. I had no clue how to start it. I know, I'm such a girl O_o.

My chimichurri has parsley, cilantro, garlic, olive oil, vinegar, lime juice and chili flakes.

Steak For Days!

This post is really late, but I still want to share all these delicious food photos. Last year, in the beginning of December, steak was on sale at my local Vons. And what I did I do? I stocked up on steak of course HA!

We had steak for days. I tried my best to be creative in the kitchen so Kiko won't get tired of it HA!

Here are some of my creations...

Pan Seared Steak with creamed corn and broccoli. A pretty straight forward dish. Simple and delicious!

Open Faced Steak Omelette. I actually made too much filling and not enough eggs, so I wasn't able to fold fold it HA!

Steak and Gravy on a Butter Biscuit. Anything drowned in gravy is good.

I hope I made you guys drool. Thanks for stopping by!

Ruth's Chris Steak House Beverly Hills

Kiko and I dined at Ruth's Chris Steak House in Beverly Hills a few days after Christmas. Thanks to his brother who gave him a gift card for his birthday. We rarely dine in steak restaurants because we rarely crave steaks. Our experience at Ruth's Chris was amazing, we think of coming back again...when budget permits ^_^.

We started with complimentary french baguette with whipped butter.

I got their Ribeye with blue cheese crust. The steak was seanoned well, super soft and tender and the bluecheese added a nice tang and saltiness to it. Super delicious!

I like my steak cooked medium.

Kiko was looking for some kind of sandwich in the menu. It's a steak restaurant for crying out loud. Order the dang piece of steak LOL. I convinced him to get their Filet and Lobster tail. The filet was literally melt in your mouth. It was amazing, but he just didn't want to admit it lol.

The sides didn't come with the entre, so we had to order separately. We decided on the Tempura Battered Onion Rings and Sauteed Mushrooms.

These are some expensive side dishes I've ever had. I think about $8-9 each. It was really good though. The tempura onion rings wasn't greasy at all and the mushrooms were very meaty and hearty.

For dessert, we decided on Chocolate Lava Cake with Vanilla Ice cream. You can never go wrong with chocolate, right?

Have you guys been to Ruth's Chirst Steak House?
