Mayflower Restaurant in China Town L.A.

(late post: November 24,2010)

This week, my mom, lola, Momocito and I went to Mayflower restaurant in China Town L.A. It's one of our favorite places to eat whenever we crave good, authentic (I think it's authentic) and cheap Chinese food. We always take advantage of their $4.25 lunch special. That includes the dish, steamed rice and soup. You can't beat that price! We pretty much have tried a lot of their stuff and everything is honestly really good. In fact, it's so good that we forget how bad the service is. For some reason, it's kind'a difficult to get the server's attention, and when you finally get their attention, they don't speak English. They do try though, but it's a bit of a struggle to place your order. Also, it takes them forever to bring your drinks and extra rice ugh! O_o. But I'm not complaining. I'm really not. I've never been disappointed with their food and we never pay more than $20 (for 3 adults and 1 baby).

So we ordered the usual. We didn't even look at the menu because my mom knows what to get already.

Sauteed tofu, mushrooms and vegetables in some kind of sauce. Sorry, I forgot what this was called.

Super garlicky and peppery House Special Shrimp. If you love shrimp and lots of garlic then you should really try this. It's fried shrimp tossed in lots and lots of garlic (as you can see!!!), onions, lot of pepper, jalapenos in some kind of sweet sauce. I might be wrong, but it tasted like a mix of hoisin and oyster sauce.

Breaded Fried Pork Chops topped with garlic and jalapenos. Love this too! The batter is light and crunchy and the meat is perfectly cooked.

Free Egg Drop soup. Not bad at all!

Look at my pretty plate ^_^

And you also have to know that the majority of diners are actually Filipinos and not Chinese. I don't think there's anything with it, but I find it really funny. That explains the Manny Paquaio photos all over the wall lol.

Inspite of the bad service, I still recommend this place to everyone. You get more for you money, and it's good!
